Roman Tarragona Tour for students

Come and embark on a captivating tour that will take you on a journey through thousands of years of history, starting from when the ancient Romans founded the city in the time before Christ.

The tour starts at the foot of the ancient walls that stand twelve meters high and were built by the Roman legions. From there, in the company of a passionate and knowledgeable guide, you will explore the narrow streets of the old quarter, where old-world charm blends with contemporary vibes, and where you will discover the beautiful Gothic Cathedral on the site where the temple of Emperor Augustus once stood 2000 years ago.

From here, we will make our way to the Roman Circus, where we will enter inside hidden subterranean tunnels that run beneath its grandstands. This is where the Romans watched the thrilling and dangerous chariot races on special festive days.

You will be invited to imagine the roar of the crowds as the four-horse chariots (quadrigae), came tearing past in fierce competition, cheered on by over 25,000 spectators.

The sites in Tarragona are so well preserved that they were declared a “World Heritage Site” by Unesco in 2000. 

And if that weren’t enough, the grand finale of our journey awaits us when we descend onto the arena of the Amphitheatre, where two thousand years ago, highly trained gladiators fought desperate combats and ferocious lions pounced on their victims for the entertainment of the Roman public.
