National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona

The National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona, founded with old collections from the Archaeological Society and the Monuments Commission, houses important remains of cultural material from the roman era.

The collection includes elements of architecture, ceramics, mosaic, bronze, bone, glass, sculptures, and inscriptions.

The whole is presided over by the logo of the museum, the famous Medusa mosaic found in the XIX Century.

The building in the Plaza del Rey, which dates to the 1960’s, is currently undergoing a total remodeling process. Consequently, the most prominent pieces are currently on exhibit in the temporary site situated in a building in the port of Tarragona.   

Very educational: The layout of the 16 rooms forms a timeline which starts from the Iberian civilization, passes through seven centuries of roman presence, and arrives to the last room, which is that of the Visigoths.

Local festive days: 19^th of August (Sant Magí) and 23^rd of September (Santa Tecla) the Centre opens from 10.00 to 14.00. Free Entry.

Easter Tuesday and 11^th of November, the Centre opens from 10.00 to 14.00. Free Entry.
