Beautifully set within the forests of the so-called New Catalonia, the abbeys of Stes. Creus and Poblet were founded around 1151. A full-day tour at two of the most significant European monasteries and an audio-visual display will show you the stark contrast existing between the well-known Cistercian austerity and the sheer abbey's scope, especially embodied by Sta. Mª de Poblet that was declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Poblet became the burial place of the Royal Catalan dinasty and still houses an active religious community. |
